Everywhere you look you hear about Responsive Websites. What are responsive websites and do I need one?
Short answer is YES.
In the past everyone viewed web-pages on their desktop PC or laptop with larger monitors attached, most designers hard coded the website to fit a certain screen resolution, over the years that resolution increased as the size and price of large monitors decreased. Today the world has changed and so have the ways we view content online.
The majority of website visitors use their mobile phone or tablet. Therefore, as designers we have to cater to the mobile web user. This means that web-sites now have to be ‘responsive’ to the medium in which users view the website. See below for example of MWIP as a responsive web-site.
How do I tell if my website is responsive? Open your site on your phone or tablet, if it is linear and not all over the place it is responsive.
